NVX X-RAID2: no volume expansion after disk ugrades?
Hi!
I'm not getting any more space on my NVX after swapping in 2TB disks in slot 3+4. Originally it was installed with 4x1TB and last year I then upgraded 2 failing drives with 2TB's coming to a 2x1TB + 2x2TB config. Sunday I swapped the last 2 drives for the same 2TB ones, one at a time, waiting for the new disks to sync up as usual. I'm expecting the single X-RAID2 volume to automatically expand to use the added disk space but no such luck. Nothing happens. Still shows 3700GB total like it was when running 2x1TB + 2x2TB.
I have tried solutions from the forum, like re-enabling journaling + multiple reboots, firmware upgrade. No luck.
What should I try next? What should the available space really be showing?

- vandermerweMasterHow many reboots, did you wait 5-10 minutes after the reboot?
Still under warranty, the nvx (not the pioneer edition) has a 5 year warranty - then contact support. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserFYI, with 4x2TB you should be seeing something like 5555 GB available. That's what my NV+ shows with that configuration. 4.2.x will be slightly different, but not much.
3700 GB looks to me like 2x1TB + 2x2TB - so the last expansions didn't happen. - CptKlutzAspirantThank you for the replies.
@vandermerwe: I have rebooted at least 10 times since the disk swaps, over many days, looking for answers. I did contact support support, told me to buy premium support or some such. Guess my Danish based warranty is different from the US you have?
@StephenB: yeah that's what I figure too. I'm just at a total loss how to make the expansion happen short of reformatting the whole thing. I've only got around 2.3TB on it at the moment so not impossible to move elsewhere during the reformat. Just hoped hotswap would actually work! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCan you email me your logs (see the link in my sig)?
- CptKlutzAspirantSorry I cleared out the logs while upgrading the firmware etc. I did check them while swapping the 2 x 2TB disks in and the disks were recognized and installed but there were no log lines at all regarding volume expansion...
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredEmail the logs zip file to me anyway.
- CptKlutzAspirantSent to the email in your sig link. Didn't know you could download that detailed a log, nice!
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDo you have an up to date backup?
You may wish to consider backing up your data and doing a factory reset (wipes all data, settings, everything), then restore your data from backup.
I could try expanding your volume manually if you prefer. - CptKlutzAspirantI'll do a backup and factory reset. Thanks for your help!
