ok to put NAS in back of plasma TV?

due to how my router/tv etc is setup. the only place to put NAS is on the top shelf of the entertainment center next to the plasma tv. i'm sure i dont want it on top of or even on a small table above my subwoofer and thats all the room thats really there on the wall where i have the tv /equipment.

  • Hi luckyinpa

It would be fine to put it beside the TV but at the back of it might not be advisable.

NAS needs adequate ventilation to help it lower heat due to disks running especially if the disks are large in capacity. Putting it in the back of your Plasma TV might get heating issues since the location will not provide proper ventilation and the TV itself emits heat as well and putting it on an almost enclosed location will also gather dust.

On top of your Sub would definitely be a big No. :)

IMO, if you can have a table next to your router or at least a location where air can pass freely then that would be the best place you can set your NAS.

    Hope this helps!

tv is not enclosed at all. is on the top of the stand. its spaghetti in the corner to the right of the tv where the sub and modem are on the floor. and i guess i could find a small table that would sit above the subwoofer but that seems like it would transfer the vibration more than the tv stand. thats why i wanted to put on the tv stand. im assuming that big piece of wood helped with dampening. its just a short wall there so i'm landlocked.

and router is literally leaning up against the left side of the tv stand on the floor at my hallway because shooting through plaster walls is just not fun so i tried to put it near an open space to reach other parts of the house. and the UPS is literally in back of the tv so i wanted to keep everything close to it to plug in. i guess i'm really stuck with it behind the tv more i think about it.

If it's really not possible to relocate at least just make sure your NAS will have enough room for ventilation and the location would not gather too much dust. :)

most importantly make sure to keep your NAS reachable so if in case you need to change drives or troubleshoot then you wouldn't need to move it.

        Hope we have helped!
