OS 6 problems need subforum

Had a quick look - does not seem to be a forum to discuss OS6.
I've just got a 316, and I now see why there are so many complaints - the GUI is appalling.

In 2 hours I've encountered the following:

Impossible to access the NAS using any method until I had activated a DHCP server on my LAN - the NAS did not use the default 192.168.168.168 IP for some reason.

email alerts for successful backups even though set to only alert when errors - I know this is a well known problem.

Hopeless config backup
1 - the backup failed to recognise that I had deleted the default shares and put them back.
2 - the protocols I had activated for each share where gone - just left with rsync, and I could not reactivate smb - the toggle switch would not stay on. I had to recreate all of the shares from scratch.
3 - as soon as I tried to include volume in the backup, it failed with an error saying the zip file would have been too big.

Backup

Impossible to untick "Remove deleted files on source" once a backup is changed to rsync - need to changed to another backup type, untick the box, then change it back to rsync
The GUI deleted 6 of my backup tasks in one foul swoop after I made changes to one backup task.

Raidar does not show any information about disks, volume, temperature, fan

Security certificate issue with browsers impossible to fix after nas is renamed

I really dont want to open up support tickets for all of this - is there any way Netgear is gathering feedback for firmware improvements?

  • A couple of new problems with OS6:

Backups: It seems that if you clear the log of a particular backup task, it changes from incremental to full on the next run.
This does not happen with frontview - I've tested it with 4.2.24.
This is not a logical or sesnsible way to specify a full backup on the next run.
There seems no purpose for this behaviour other than to make the bug list for OS6 longer.

    UPS communication error:

I am receiving UPS communication errors on every boot. The UPS comes up correctly once the 316 has fully booted and the UPS works correctly with my ultra 6 plus.
  • I also have a UPS issue when connected to my RN516, when the NAS starts up (either cold boot or scheduled) probably 80% to 90% of the time I get a message saying "System: Error communicating with UPS 'UPS' ()." yet the UPS shows up fine in the ReadyNAS UI, I have raised this to support and they have passed the case on to the developers.

My UPS is a APC ES 700G connected via USB.

I have also noticed that since the 6.0.8 update (which actually fixed many of the issues I was having) and the associated ReadyCloud update that none of the Android apps work (Ready Remote, ReadyDLNA etc.), support have said this should be fixed in several months, which seems quite a long time to me to have to wait, the iOS apps work for me though.
  • From what I can tell, at any point if a "UPS communicating" issue actually resets the logs under the performance tab. The "history" of say looking back a week will be truncated to the last time communications were "lost". Clearly they have a bug here.
