OSX Support refresh - Thunderbolt/Open Directory/Lion ?
Perhaps given Mac developments there is an opportunity to refresh some of the features.
1) Thunderbolt support is beginning to grow, perhaps future devices could add this support along side USB 3.0 for fast data movement on the client side, rather than for plugging in more external drives ? Would make data migration much easier given a theoretical bandwidth of 10GB/s, this of course would likely stress the throughput of the latest devices, but would be better than Gig Ethernet.
2) Have the Radiator OS either natively support joining an Open Directory or even be an Open Directory server ? I guess this functionality is on a par with the Active Directory capabilities of the Pro devices.
3) I see that the OS version are catching up to support the Lion changes - shame Netgear was not more on the front foot on this. Is there anything new in Lion that the Radiator OS could have new feature built out for ? iCloud synchronization - perhaps competes with Ready Vault ?
It seem there is a big Mac based community out there, possibly growing...why not embrace this opportunity/market more ?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired1) I'd like to see this. However do remember that while the Mac market is significant the primary market for the ReadyNAS would be Windows users.
2) If this is added one would expect it only to come on business x86 models (e.g. the. Pro)
3) NetGear's released updates with Lion compatibility very quickly after Lion's release. I don't see how they could be more on the front foot with this. As for things like iCloud synchronization, I'm not sure if this is possible or if it'd offer any benefits over using ReadyNAS Vault. mdgm wrote: As for things like iCloud synchronization, I'm not sure if this is possible or if it'd offer any benefits over using ReadyNAS Vault.
well cost for one thing, integration with all your idevices for another- Given that iCloud is already supposed to synchronize a local copy of your files to the service, adding another copy to the NAS seems redundant. I could see it if you could "point" iCloud's local services at the ReadyNAS, making it a "Private iCloud" - but then, that defeats the purpose, from Apple's point of view (And also eliminates a lot of the benefits of iCloud, such as the media locker).
I do agree there needs to be alternatives for online backup providers - ReadyNAS Vault has fallen short of the mark compared to some other offerings I've seen online. However, I don't think iCloud is it - I'd rather see supported clients for Mozy, Carbonite, etc. before iCloud. - mediahoAspirantiCloud could work like this with ReadyNas:
1) I purchase a song in iTunes from my iPhone.
2) the song sync's automatically to my iCloud account (already does this)
3) My ReadyNas Duo automatically downloads the song from my iCloud account
making the song available on my Sonos system at home.
I'm a very lazy person I don't want to have to push media around.
