Hi,
Yes, this is possible but you need to use file permissions as well then. SMB permissions would not be granular enough to specify what you are after.
Look at the file permissions tab and un-check the box that grants rename and delete priviliges to non-owned files.

That box is only for AFP/NFS shares.

It should work SMB as well. It is file permissions so it shouldn't matter what protocol you use to access the files.
The reason AFP and NFS are mentioned is because for these the two protocols we typically restict individual access on the file level whereas for SMB we do it on the network level.
I don't see why this wouldn't work for SMB to be honest. You can test it out :)

I went ahead and tested it out. The files can still be deleted by the wdtv1 user.
Maybe the issue is how I got the files onto the NAS.
I plugged in my extrernal drive to the NAS and used the admin page to copy over the folders and files.
