phantom share: can't view, delete or create new one
This may be related to viewtopic.php?p=131391 but the fix listed there didn't help.
Short form: I deleted a share, but its ghost lingers.
Symptoms: I get the message
when I access the shares directory. TMcotopaxi shows up as a mount point under CIFS on my Mac (though not as AFS), but I can't access any files there. TMcotopaxi does NOT show up as a share under the FrontView shares page. And when I try to create a new TMcotopaxi share using FrontView, I get the message:
How I got into this state (I think): There was a previously a share named TMcotopaxi, but I was having permission problems and wanted to delete it entirely. I deleted it using FrontView shares page, then (almost immediately) created a new share of the same name. After I created the new TMcotopaxi share, I got a pop-up alert informing me that TMcotopaxi had been deleted. It was only then that I realized that the previous share was being deleted asynchronously in the background. However, the log file DID report
What I've tried: I rebooted the ReadyNAS with "Check and fix quotas on next boot." enabled. No joy. I re-installed the firmware as per
faq.php#How_do_I_re-install_the_firmware%3F, but no joy there either.
How do I get rid of this phantom share?
Thanks in advance.

- ewokNETGEAR ExpertTry connecting to C as admin using Windows Explorer and see if you can create the Others folder.

Not aware of a way to do that in share access. - ewokNETGEAR Expert
- SandsharkSenseiWorked like a champ. Upon reboot, declared it successfully re-created the shares, and it indead did.
- cadditguyAspirantSorry to rehash an old post, I am having similar problems. Every time I create a share in frontview it does not show. Im not even sure what it does. I have to ssh into the box, create the share under c, the link in the root and the same share under home/ftp for it to show in frontview so I can assign ftp users etc. I have reinstalled the firmware (several times) as we were experiencing the ftp memory leak (didnt work so I have a cron job to restart the service every night, I know..... different topic) but the problem persists.
- ewokNETGEAR ExpertWhat kind of behavior do you see when you create it in Frontview? Any popups in the UI?
- kash11AspirantThanks for all the advice ewok.
I have the same problem. After trying everything, including rebooting, I am left with no choice but to factory reset the readynas. I changed the name of a couple of shares and also deleted some users, and now when i try and access a share it asks for the password and username, but there are no users set fro my readynas! Also I cant access any shares.
Luckily, all of my data is also on my desktop hard drive so no data was lost! - ewokNETGEAR Expert

If you ever do run into the problem again, please let me know and I'll take a closer look. - cadditguyAspirantI finally got fed up having to ssh into the box, create the shares under c and ftp, create a link in the root then go back to frontview to assign a user to the ftp site so I reset the box back to factory defaults. Spent several hours setting up (through frontview this time) the ftp sites backup again, setting up the users and assigning them to the ftp and copying the data back to their respective ftp site. Everything worked well until a week later I went to setup a new ftp site using frontview and were back to the same problem. You add a new share nothing shows up. There is a listing in the samba.conf for it but nothing in /c or /home/ftp. I have to manually create them then it shows up in frontview so I can assign users.
If I run the CreateMissingSharePaths_0.1.bin the shares are created properly but I dont want to have to reboot the appliance every time I want to create a share. - ewokNETGEAR ExpertWhich version of the firmware are you using? I'd like to try debugging this remotely if you're up for it. Send me a PM if you're interested.
