Pre Purchase Questions
We're a small shop of about 12 users. Currently using Windows 2008 in a domain environment, but we just got rid of our last app that was dependent on a server, so now I'm looking at a less complicated setup and going to a NAS. Have about 1GB of data and it shouldn't grow beyond 2GB in the next 5 years. Unless I've overlooked something, the ReadyNAS seems like a great solution for our environment and I wanted to solicit feedback before pulling the trigger.
What we will definitely use:
I am curious about the Snapshots feature. We love the "Previous Versions" feature in Windows. Does Snapshots work the same way? In other words, can a user perform his/her own snapshot recoveries from Windows Explorer or just via a browser? Or is that something best left for an administrator to perform for the user?
Seems like we can get out of the domain environment and go with a workgroup given that the ReadyNAS has Users and Groups. Any feedback is appreciated, especially on a specific model of NAS. Thanks.

- RXLuminaryI would recommend you the Intel-based ReadyNAS OS 6 models. Regarding their comparison, check this link: http://netgear.com/images/pdf/ReadyNAS_ ... 700_DS.pdf
About snapshots on ReadyNAS OS 6, check these links below:

http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detai ... erating-my - jason92sAspirantThank you. I think the RN312 with two 4TB drives will work out great. Any reason not to go diskless and buy our own drives or do most people go with the disks already in?

It depends... Some people may find it cheaper if they will purchase a NAS with bundled disks and some people would like to purchase diskless NAS and choose to buy their own disks. For a list of compatible disks for RN312 and other ReadyNAS models, check this link: http://www.readynas.com/app/hcl_disk - jason92sAspirantSounds good, thank you.
