Print server capability on 316

I have a Samsung CLX 3185 printer with only a USB connection I would like to connect to my network via a print server.

Currently, I have this printer connected via an ancient standalone print server that makes the printer look like an LPT device. Works great. The "brain dead" printer server doesn't require any printer-specific drivers; the driver software all lives on my client mac and pc computers, and it works.

But now I need to move the printer.

I have 3 readynas devices: an NV+, a Ultra 6+, and a 316.

The OS 4.x devices, meaning the NV+ and the Ultra 6+ both seem to do want I want. They seem to have printer server functionality built in. But, alas, I wish to locate the printer near my newest readynas, the 316.

And I cannot find native printer server functionality in OX 6. It seems to be missing.

So, I have installed super-poussin's CUPS add-in, which I found in his dropbox server. I can launch the app, but I cannot configure it. When I go to the administration Tab, and select "add a printer" all I see is the word "forbidden". And "find new printers" says "no printers found"

Is super-poussin's add-in the easiest way to go? Will it give me the same sort of LPT functionality I get with my "brain dead" print server, or will I have to install Linux printer drivers specific to my printer. And any clues as to why I cannot seem to configure the printer using the CUPS administration page? (obviously, I have the printer turned on and connected to a USB port on the readynas; the printer works well with the "brain dead" LPT server I used to use, and the USB port on the readynas works well with a USB flash drive I connected to test it)

Thanks!
