Questions before purchasing ReadyNAS
At my work, we are looking into replacing a damage 4TB NAS after looking into NETGEAR ReadyNAS 104 (RN10441D-100NAS) 4TB at http://www.cnet.com/network-storage/netgear-readynas-104-rn10441d/4507-3...

I measure about 50 Mbytes/sec read and write with my RN102, when copying a gigabyte file. That is with Western Digital WD30EFRX drives in a jbod configuration. RAID-5 write speeds would be slower, read speeds should be the same.

Though some folks here have reported that performance is slower with multiple users. The RN1xx products are entry level, you will get faster speeds from RN3xx or RN5xx platforms.
Netgear has a compatibility list here: http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=82 Other drives often work [but not always]. However, Netgear can/will deny support if you move off their HCL. Also, it is wise to search this forum for your drive model before you purchase - often other ReadyNAS owners will post their experiences.

USB backup is a "yes". Not sure about 4 TB capacities as I haven't tried that. The RN104 also has eSata.
