Readynas duo v2 and seagate ironwolf

First off, we need to know if you have a "real" V2. Unfortunately, Netgear made a branding blunder in releasing a product called a "V2" when they had already used "v2" to indicate a small change in the original Duo (which we refer to here as a "V1"). If your NAS says "ReadyNAS Duo V2" on the front, it's the "real" V2. If it simply says "Readynas Duo", it's a V1. That makes a difference because the V1 only supports drives up to 2TB where the V2 supports larger ones. Any other labeling is unimportant here.
Nonetheless, both should recognize the drive, the V1 will simply not properly recognize its size.
What specific status does the GUI show? Are there any messages in the log related to drive insertion or removal? Did you add the drive with power on or power off?
Did the original drive "disappear" completely or just give errors? If it disappeared, it may be that you have a NAS hardware issue, not a drive issue. Have you tested the old drive outside the NAS?
Thanks for you help, I have done some more testing and the drive works outside the enclosure, so it's the enclosure. Looking for a replacement now, all my files are backed up in the cloud, not going to lose anything

Do you have the "real" v2? (ReadyNAS Duo v2 label on the front panel)?
Or do you have the original Duo (ReadyNAS Duo label on the front panel)?
If you are looking for a used replacement ReadyNAS, you also need to be careful which Duo you actually have and buy. MANY used units are advertised as a "V2" that are really a V1, and volumes are not interchangeable between them. In addition, the only other ReadyNAS you can use are an NV+ (to replace a Duo V1) and an NV+V2 (to replace a Duo V2). Those units, however, also suffer from labeling confusion.
To properly ID a Duo that's for sale, in addition to the front labeling, look for a smaller than full width fan and a recess for the power supply connection on the rear for a V1 and a full-width fan and no recess for a "real" V2. The NV+ is easier: The V1 is silver and has an internal power supply, the V2 is black and has a power brick.
Since many are sold without drive caddies, you can re-use yours in the replacement. The power supply for a Duo, also often not included, is not compatible with a NV+, however.
