Readynas NV+ Slows down network when turned on/ plugged in

Are you running the DHCP server on your router and your NAS? Are you telling the NAS to run as a WINS server? Running DHCP on both your router and the NAS on one network would be the be the only immediate thing that comes to mind that could cause this.
