Ready NAS Duo v2 -- Installation problems
Hello, everyone. I have a specific use for my trusty old Ready NAS Duo v2 which was last used about 9 years ago. It ran very well for years with no issues at all before 'retiring' it. I did the o...

Thanks once again for all your help, Steven.
I think I'll manage from here.
Kind regards,
Rob.

Thank you, Steven.
Just an update on my progress (so-far)....
I 'reset' the NAS to factory defaults using the small (almost hidden) reset aperture on the back of the unit and installed the two 2GB HDD's whic were used originally. Of course, the drives were 'blanked' before installing. On power-up the NAS went through it's bulid routine on drive 1, and once that settled, moved over to drive two to do a build duplicate of drive 1 (presumably). The drive 1 green LED has settled to steady-green eventually, then drive 2 LED started blinking - presuming drive 2 is still being 'prepared'?
Do I need to wait until both drives are in a 'ready' [with both drive LED's in a steady state] state before I can attempt a login as admin using admin/password ? I did attempt to do this while drive 2 was getting itself ready and managed to reach the admin login screen, but when I put the correct credentials in, I kept being returned to the admin login screen. This was actually done using Linux Mint via Firefox.
I even went as far as to put windows XP on an old laptop to get closer to the original O/S used at the time, but I did worse there than on Linux - which reported back "This web site might not support the TLS 1.2 protocol, which is the minimum version supported by Firefox" - which is basically one of the things you suspected.
If my memory serves me correctly, does the admin login need to happen within 15 minutes if initiating the NAS build for some reason? I've probably confused this with something else, but thought I'd be as well mentioning it.
HDD number 2 is still flashing away doing it's 'thing' as I type this information, Steven.
If there's anything you'd like to add at this point, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thank you again,
Rob.

Yes. More information on dealing with this is here: https://community.netgear.com/t5/New-ReadyNAS-Users-General/Workaround-for-ERR-SSL-VERSION-OR-CIPHER-MISMATCH-problem-for/m-p/2198243
Initially you'll either need to download on old browser (FireFox has an archive which is referenced in the above link), or use IE.

You mention that you have a Duo v2 - but many users actually don't correctly identify whether their NAS is the original Duo (v1) or a v2. That's on Netgear - the labeling is very confusing. If your Duo says "ReadyNAS Duo v2" on the front panel, then it is a Duo v2 - and the default admin password is password. If it just says "ReadyNAS Duo" then it's the original, and the default admin password is netgear1.
You don't need to wait for the RAID to resync, but the system will be sluggish until it does resync.

The system defaults to XRAID (which amounts to RAID-1 with the Duo). If you don't want XRAID, then you do need to use RAIDar to set the RAID mode within a 10 minute time window. If you actually need to do that, you will need RAIDar 4.3.8 - the newer RAIDar 6.x doesn't have that function.

Thanks again, Steven.
I tried again to login using the netgear1 password, and that worked fine. I can now connect. I changed the admin password (of course) at this first login, but I've basically got a blank interface telling me I don't have any shares. See attached image at the foot of this message.
Looking on the underside of the unit there's a silver label identifying it as: RND2000 v2 (although the front panel states Ready NAS Duo). So, we seem to be getting there... slowly but surely. Thank you so much for your time and patience, Steven.

That is one reason why the v2 branding was confusing. You definitely have the original Duo (which runs 4.1.x firmware). The final firmware was 4.1.16 (which can be found here: https://kb.netgear.com/000038792/RAIDiator-Version-4-1-16-Sparc

That's because you aren't browsing to https://nas-ip-address/admin
The /admin is required to get you into Frontview.
BTW, the screen doesn't mean you have no shares - there were shares created during installation. It means that you have no shares that are set up to be browsed via http.

Thanks, Steven.
I've managed to log-in successfully using my old repurposed Windows XP laptop. Can't get in at the moment from my Linux PC using Firefox - but I'm able to connect using the laptop anyway. That's all I'll need for starters.
Just out of interest, this is the message Firefox returns when attempting an admin login using https://nas-ip-address/admin
Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to 192.168.0.17. Peer using unsupported version of security protocol.

Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem. This web site might not support the TLS 1.2 protocol, which is the minimum version supported by Firefox.
I can see that I'll need to look more into TLS and will let you know how I get on.
Thank you again,
Rob.
