Ready NAS NVX Power failure
I have a 2010 bought ReadyNAS NVX which will no longer power up (not a flicker or glimmer of any life). I have tried: - changing cables - changing power socket - leaving cold for 24 hours and res...
Just to close this off, in my case it definately needed a new power supply. I replaced it myself with one from ebay, advertised for the ReadyNas. With shipping it was around $100, but didn't require any repinning or changing. I disassembled the NVX and re-assembled with the replacement power supply and the NAS picked up where it left off.

I took the whole unit apart this afternoon, literally. Cleaned everything and replaced the CMOS battery and put it back together and it works!
Thanks for helping on the model numbers and advice. I'll definately get a backup NAS now...
So much for that. It definately came on, went through the boot phase, did the "Checking FS..." and stopped with no network connection. It hit power off, and then again and it did it again to do an orderally shutdown which worked. Took it back to the place it normally lives, replugged the ethernet and power cable and nothing.
That does sound very much like a power supply problem. When one of the voltages is out of spec, but not completely gone, random successes in booting can happen. Once the unit is up and running, the power demand goes down, and it might stay on for a while.
The power supply is a modified Flex ATX (aka mini ITX) supply -- modified in that it has no fan and a slightly modified pin-out. You can buy an ATX power extender and cross-wire a couple of pins as a temporary way of connecting any old ATX supply externally to see if that really will fix it.
