Thanks - the backup-by-accident scenario seems like a possibility. Actually it seems like too easy of a possibility - there should be more safeguards. I assume only the user would have access rights to the accidentally backed-up folder, but that still means an administrator (i.e., the user's boss) can see the personal information. Good to be aware of this, for sure!
