MP4s (like most container formats) can hold a variety of compressed bitstream formats, and sometimes the details on that matters. Perhaps try a mediainfo analysis? The tool can be found here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MediaInfo Select the text view, and cut/paste the data into a reply (hand-editing the file name if you wish).
Also, if the file name has unusual characters, you could try a test where you simplify the name, and see if that helps.
