ReadyDLNA/MiniDLNA/UPNPAV/ReadyMedia Problems
I am running the current version--reported as 1.1.0--of the boxed-in DLNA server which comes with RAIDiator 4.2.26 on my ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Plus. Most files stream fine to a variety of UPNP devices, bu...

I hear you. However, one of the challenges with DLNA (compared with CIFS or NFS access) is that both the DLNA server and the DLNA player need to understand the details of the media format. The server needs to be able to demux the container and stream, it also needs to understand adapt to what the player says it can play.
CarlEdman wrote: Thank you, StephenB, but I doubt that is it. All the files, both the thousands that work and the dozens that don't, are h264 video (generated by x264), AAC audio, and usually mp4s subtitles. There are no non-ASCII characters in the file names.
This makes interop issues hard to diagnose sometimes.
Anyway, that was why I asked. Your MP4s have a lot more stuff in them than most of mine, but I am not seeing anything crazy in there. Sometimes AC3 audio shows up, and I know that can cause issues with some players, but I'm not sure about ReadyDLNA. The details of the AVC encoding are consistent with the signaled profile/level (which BTW is not always the case).
I am wondering about the isom base media - is that also showing in other files that do play?
As far as practical next steps...
(a) you could try to compare mediainfo data with some similar files that do play, and see if you can discover a signature. That of course is pretty time consuming.
(b) you could try plex (https://plex.tv/downloads), and see if that works
(c) you could try remuxing these two mp4s to MKV, and see if that resolves anything.
(d) maybe PM skywalker, and see if he has any suggestions on ReadyDLNA - including your update idea.
