ReadyDR major difference in source snapshot size and destination ReadyDR backup size.
ReadyDR sounds like a great idea for additional backup security. Backup the source server snapshots with ability to restore from those only offers more options than were there prior. Setup was okay once I figured out where everything was. I set up a ReadyDR backup job from a source server with about 100GB worth of Snapshots from 1.3TB worth file data. Snapshots are 'smart'. I have created a ReadyDR backup job and set it to start, it has now been going for 2-days and reports back a size so far of 820GB. The ReadyNAS units are 312 -two drive units with a pair of 4TB WD-Red drives in a mirrored array. So approx 4TB of storage. They are paired with each other, One is called 'data', the other 'backup'. Standard daily backups are performed from the data to the backup. The introduction of ReadyDR had me also assume that daily snapshot backups can also be performed.
The ReadyDR backup job is still running. It's a 'push' backup from 'data' to 'backup'. The 'backup' drive is now getting full and running out of space. I suspect the ReadyDR job will fail because of it. There is about 408GB worth of free space left.
Those are my details. Now what I can't figure is why the ReadyDR backup is so far at about 820GB in size. If the ReadyDR service is supposed to be backing up snapshots, it should be 100GB just like the snapshots are on the source drive right?
Or am I thinking about the wrong and misunderstand what the ReadyDR backup does.
Does anyone have any insight on what could be going on?
regards.

The space consumed by snapshots in the volume usage chart in the web admin UI refers to the space consumed by old versions of files and deleted files. The snapshot also includes current data, but as the data is current it's not part of the snapshot usage part of the usage chart. When you backup a snapshot you're backing up both the current data included in that snapshot and the old versions of files and deleted files that were present when that snapshot was taken.

Thanks for the reply. So, let me see if i understand this and please forgive as I didnt find that too easy to totally understand. The ReadyDR 'backup' is in fact not just the snapshot data of the specified share on the source NAS, it's all the file data AND the snapshot data of the specified source share on the NAS copied to the destination ReadyDR created share that was set up during the creation of the ReadyDR backup job. Is this right?

When you backup a snapshot that snapshot contains current data that hasn't changed since the snapshot was taken and data in the snapshot that is no longer present/has changed.
The same data may be shared by all snapshots and current data so backup history can be stored efficiently on the ReadyDR backup destination.
