ReadyNAS 102.... Apps not installing
Hey All,
I just bought a 102 and am unable to install any applications from the FrontEnd. In all cases (Plex, Anti-Virus Plus, Ready Surveillance, Jeeves .... 5 others) the application download appears to start but the status bar only shifts a cm or 2 before disappearing. Followed by an alert "Failed to install application 'Plex Media Server' or what ever app i try.
Hard Drives are 2 x 3TB (ST3000DM001)
Have tried
*3 factory resets
*OS 6.1.1 through to 6.1.4 (Performing a factory reset each time)
*Switching from RAIDX to FLEX RAID
*Turning Genie+ on/off
*Uploading plexmediaserver-ros6-binaries_0.9.8.17.282-c844f09_amd64 manually on the front end. The upload seems to complete and i have even seen and alert saying the app has installed correctly but when looking at the "installed Apps' there is nothing shown.
There is no data on the device so I am willing to try anything to get at least Plex Server on there. I have spent the last 3 days reading posts on this site and the Plex site seeing some really good knowledge from StephenB, chirpa, mdgm and super-poussin and I am hoping someone can shed any light on this issue?
End Goal is having Plex server installed (I know 102 cannot transcode), but I am not sure that Plex will work on a 102 with 6.1.4?
PLEASE HELP!!!

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIt is installed on my system (running 6.1.4), though if I recall correctly it took a long time to show up in the list after I installed it.
- J0nnyPAspirantThanks for quick response StephenB,
Is there anyway to activate Plex as a service instead of waiting for it to show up in installed apps? It's my first app install so I am assuming the app will show as a service somewhere and require enabling followed by pointing certain shares folders at it?
I have some ssh via putty experience (or at least a few mates who are comfortable with Debian etc) so happy to go down the back end path if required.
How long was a long time? 2 days, weeks etc
Cheers - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI think it took overnight (certainly less than 24 hrs).
- J0nnyPAspirantOk thanks, I did a factory reset last night. Once the volumes finished building eta 2hrs left, I'll try another upload of plexmediaserver-ros6-binaries_0.9.8.17.282-c844f09_amd64 and if I get the install successful alert, I'll wait 24hrs and see what happens.
- J0nnyPAspirantNo luck i'm afraid. There are no apps showing as installed. Any ideas on the next step would be great?
Just to recap I now have 6.1.4 installed, volumes have been rebuilt, Plex Media fails to install via the available apps list. As do all apps i have tried (6+) I uploaded plex manually, received a successful installed message on screen and via email alert. Waited over 24hrs and the app has not shown on the front view overview of apps menus.
Any ideas? or suggestions - J0nnyPAspirantCan anyone help with this problem? Please. (It's beyond the 90 day phone support as it took me some time to buy the hdd)
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou still have free support, just not via phone. Try support.netgear.com.
- J0nnyPAspirantThanks, I upgraded to 6.1.5 yesterday, performed a factory reset, waited for the volumes to rebuild but the same issue remains. I've just logged a support ticket. I'll post the solution once it's figured out.

This is for anyone encountering the same issue as I had.
Netgear support directed me to this app page http://apps.readynas.com/pages/?page_id=9
Where I downloaded an older version of Plex media server. [plexmediaserver-ros6-binaries_0.9.7.28.0-d1f35c1-netgear2_armel.deb]
If you want the direct link here it is http://apt.readynas.com/packages/readynasos/dists/apps/pool/p/plexmediaserver-ros6-binaries/plexmediaserver-ros6-binaries_0.9.7.28.0-d1f35c1-netgear2_armel.deb
I uploaded this app via the frontend and received the same successful message as before except this time the app showed under the installed apps menu and I was able to toggle the service on and get it working.
I am yet to find out why the downloading from the available apps menu is failing and also I downloaded the readynas surveillance app from the app page provided by Netgear support and although the install was announced as failed and written in the logs as failed I can see the app installed and can toggle the service on.
It's clear there are some bugs in the OS at least on my device but the end goal was installing Plex Media Server and it's on there now. Don't even want to think about upgrading plex versions anytime soon.
Thanks to StephenB and mdgm for their advice. I hope this helps someone else out there. - aVe2000AspirantHello,
did you try as described here?
https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/88187-how-to-update-plex-on-a-readynas-102104/
I made a post there with instructions for update.
Responses are welcome in the plex forum.
