That might have been a mistake. How exactly did you do that?

hello StephenB,
thanks for your question.
I did that with the NAS shutted down.
i booted without hard drives and it runned. After I shutted down the NAS. i installed the hard drives and I turned on the NAS and the problem appeared again. I executed this task 2 or 3 times to understand what happenned
One time, without hard drives, i booted and i executed the Netgear software and prepared his installation with my computer... but without hard drives, the installation is not saved! I wanted to know if i was able to exit the safe mode and i think i succeed!
I just try with hard drives again and after turning on the Nas, the message welcome readynas appears and the Nas shuts down again.
thanks for your help

Ok, that was a safe procedure.
There are a couple of possibilities:
- The power adapter might not be delivering enough power
- The chassis might have failed in a way that only shows up with disks
- There might be a disk issue
You could try a risk-buy of a replacement power adapter.

Another path is to test the disks in a Windows PC using vendor tools (Dashboard for Western Digital; Seatools for Seagate)

hello StephenB,
Changing power adaptator is not a risk, i get another one with a second chassis also. So I will try today to change only power adaptator.
In a second time i will check the disks. I baught a hard drive adaptator for USB. I need now the windows vendor tool.
thanks for your proposals.

Hello StephenB,
I have just tried to change the power adapter as you said. Good news, it has seemed working properly but the bad news is after 15sec i eared a little noise and i'm thinking that the new power adapter is dead. The led also turn off. I tried it with the second NAS (without disk) but it doesn't work!!
I have tried just after to start the first NAS (with disks inside) with the native power adapter and the NAS starts but during 2 sec as before....
So I suppose my first NAS is not dead just the new power adapter!! It seems to be an electrical pb!!
Tomorrow, i will try to start the new NAS without hard drives with the native power adapter to verify if the new NAS alone works properly. If yes, i will install all hard drives into the new NAS and plug the native power adapter on it to see if the new NAS works with hard drives.... If the new NAS works as the old one, we can say that the problem comes from power adapter and / or a problem with hard drives or NAS grounding!!
Do you think it's logical !

If the new NAS works with the new power adapter and the drives, then it sounds like the problem is in the old chassis.
If the new NAS also fails the boot, then my guess is that the issue is related to the drives.
