-Changing the security mode will not result in any data loss.
-No one is suggesting a reset.
Is checkbox vandermerwe suggested visible to you? (select the share listing, click on the CIFS icon for the specific share, and then the advanced tab on the upper right).
If so, just try that. If not, please confirm that it isn't there.
