Sep 02, 2017Morning Jenn,
Is this local backup or over the Internet?
* It's a local backup and the nas is connected direct to the netgear switch, the ftp server is also plugged into the same netgear switch.
Also, are you using the built-in Backup Job of ReadyNAS or a third party backup software?
* I'm using the built in backup software in 6.8, also when the backup fails the Test Connection link still works.
Settings can be viewed via
https://readycloud.netgear.com/client/dllink.html#t=0i33glkx568/netgear.docx
Thanks for your help.
Have a good weekend.

Hello philsbbs,
Are you using WAN/Internet IP address to point to the FTP server? If so, can you try using the LAN IP of the FTP server instead and see if there's any difference.

Morning.
I've changed the server name to (local ip 192.168.x.y) and run the backup this morning and got:
Backup Job Name: current
Backup Job Type: Incremental
Protocol: ftp
Backup Source: [remote:ftp]/ftp://192.168.x.y/
Backup Destination: [Backups]/Current
Backup Start Time: Tue Sep 5 2017 8:56:29
Backup Finish Time: Tue Sep 5 2017 10:10:57
Backup Status: Fail: Connection cannot be established. Check the connection and authentication, if required.Failed to copy Excel_Files/sslimited/invoices/PS097.xlsx
Cannot connect to server or connection timeout! Timeout was reachedSome files did copy.
Once again I clicked on the test connection button in the settings and there was no issue test connecting to the ftp server and I can access the ftp via a ftp client with no trouble at all. I ran the backup yesterday and it toke like four attempts before one of the backups completed and the other backup just kept failing.
As I say I had no issues with the backups until about four firmwares ago.
Please advise what to do next.

Have you tried a different backup protocol? for instance SMB ("windows") or rsync?

Hi,
Thanks for the replies, sorry I don;t have another rsync server or nas to *try.
I've done more testing and my findings are:-
* the ftp server and nas box have no trouble recieving ping commands via dns or i.p address
* ftp to the source ftp server has no issues
* ftp access to the nas box has no issues
* running a backup via iperius backup from the ftp server to the nas box has no problems
* accessing the ftp server via network shares has no problems.

The only issue all day has been the nas backup program
Here is some recently testing.
downloading via weburl worked 6.43,6.53,7.02,7.02,7.08
backup via iperius backup (ftp server to nas device via dns naming) - worked from 5.02-5.12
backup via iperius backup (ftp server to nas device using i.p) - worked 6.00-7.08
backup run via readynas backup failed 7.28
I then did more testing
pings worked 7.31
readynas url worked 7.32
shares on ftp and readynas worked 7.32
ftpserver (source) worked no issues 7.38
ftpserver (nasserver) worked no issues 7.38
Again proving only issue is the readynas backup program.
Help !!

Hello philsbbs,
Could it be the file PS097.xlsx is the only one that stops the backup? Maybe check the file permission if it is too secured via Windows settings, perhaps adding Everyone as allowed to access it would help.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply but the source for the backup is remote:ftp and has the correct ftp account that has the correct permission to the folders to backup and the test connection confirms this works ok.Another backup has just failed again. Yet once again the source and destination are both accessible and working as they should except for the backup program.
I've even had a download via a weburl link so I know all is ok.
Any ideas ? Tips or Tricks.
