So, over the weekend, I decided to pull the trigger and "reset factory defaults" on my RN104 to see if it would help this issue. All went well... I re-imported my settings and copied my data back to the drive. The drive stayed up for 2 entire days (a real feat nowdays) while it was happily copying data. I was hoping that by reformatting the RAID volumes and/or reducing the snapshots back to zero would help the locking up situation.
Unfortunately, doing this did not seem to help. A few hours after my data finished copying, my RN104 locked up again. At least for my situation, my drive only seems to become unresponsive while it is idle. Maybe this is a big clue.
I also set the panic and panic_on_oops settings to see if an automatic reboot would occur, indicating a kernel panic, but my unit did not reboot. So, at least in my case, a kernel panic does not seem to be happening...
