Here's my experience over the last week for what it's worth.
I have the RN104 with four 2TB drives. It has 5.3TB of space of which 3.4 is used. I went from 6.1.9 to 6.2.2 a little over a week ago. Immediately after updating I started experiencing the lock ups described in this thread. I turned off snapshots as suggested but to no avail.
After a few days of this the beta came out and I decided to get a current backup of the nas before trying it. One thing I noticed is that on my sons share he had a folder with a ton of old Minecraft saves and various associated files. It totalled to just under 200,000 small files. Since he is not actively accessing them, just keeping them for archive purposes, I took the whole folder and created one big rar archive, then deleted the folder (with no snapshot of it). After that, I copied all the rest of the files on the nas over to a 4TB backup drive. That took quite a while to complete and a few days went by before I got back around to putting the beta on. Oddly since I removed that large folder it has not gone down at all, so I have not yet installed the beta.
This experience leads me to believe there may be some issue with a very large amount of small files on 6.2.2 which worked fine on 6.1.9.
