As others say there can be more than one problem with the lockup symptom, but in this case I'd have to point out that there are probably not a lot of people in the world running btrfs on the Marvel Armada 370 so this may be processor specific. These are difficult problems. If it's a kernel bug (hopefully) then netgear should be able to capture kernel dumps to analyze. Since this is a highly integrated chip there are many drivers interacting with it.
mdgm can you confirm if netgear has repro'd the issue in house? In my experience that is a huge first step and until it happens people are shooting in the dark with backports, code review findings, and other theories.
