ReadyNAS DR

Netgear's backup jobs (ReadyDR and all other protocols) are intended to back up shares. They don't have any facility to backup/restore the OS itself or the apps.
I don't know why they've set it up that way.
I just swapped from ReadyDR to RSync as I was having various issues with ReadyDR as it was very dependant on snapshots.
But, what is the best method to backup the BaiKal database since you made mention they dont backup apps.

I outlined a way. Use ssh to move the BaiKal folder to a folder on a share, and then replace the original folder with a soft link to the share.
Then you can back up the share using the Netgear backup jobs.
I get the copy to a /data/share, but what do you mean by a soft link in the original location. I am not sure what that means. And what does that soft link do.

A soft link (also called a symbolic link) is a bit like a short cut. It points to the real file (or folder), and linux will follow it automatically to get to the actual target. So the app will still find and access the database using the same path it did before, but the database itself will actually be in a different location.
