Readynas duo firmware out of date but cannot log on to admin page as browser says firmware nbg

I am attempting to resurrect an Readynas duo but unfortunately after reset to factory to obtain a new ip address and radar finds OK i cannot log on to admin page because firmware is 4,1,16 which browser says is not supported - presumably because protocl TLS1.2 is not in the old firmware.

How do I solve the chicken and egg problem and get access?

FWIW, 4.1.16 isn't out-of-date - it's the final firmware for your NAS. But it unfortunately only supports TLS 1.0, and recently browsers are beginning to drop support for that.

For now, you can regain access

    1. Connecting with Internet Explorer
    2. Connecting with Edge in "IE mode" https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/450116/how-to-enable-ie-mode-on-microsoft-edge.html
    3. Downloading an older browser version, and immediately configure it to NOT autoupdate.  Firefox 94.0.2 will work.  https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/94.0.2/

There is a thread here that gives you another option (once you have access) - https://community.netgear.com/t5/New-ReadyNAS-Users-General/Workaround-for-ERR-SSL-VERSION-OR-CIPHER-MISMATCH-problem-for/m-p/2198243 That option is to modify virtual.conf in the NAS, so that it will allow http to be used to reach the admin page (instead of redirecting to https).  There is a guide in message 5 of the thread. The downside is that the admin interface is unencrypted.

Thanks.  I actually chose Opera as it has a patched version of v9 available for download.

After finding that the default password is NOT password but netgear1 ??   I get a frontview window with everything greyed out.  If I try to login to ipaddress/shares I get an error message in a frontview window saying no shares accessible.

      Can I get any further ? 😊

Correct.  The default password for all systems running 4.x firmware is netgear1. The default for 5.x and 6.x systems is password.

By default, shares are not shared with http.  So this is not unusual.

I've never used Opera to access frontview, and I am wondering if it is fully compatible. Is there any data on the NAS?  I'm thinking likely not, since it is using the default password.

If there is data, can you access it with SMB?

What size disks are you using?  The max size for 4.1.x systems is 2 TB.

It might also be useful to see what status RAIDar gives for the NAS.  https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads#raidar
