ReadyNas Duo not Seen by Wireless PC

Here's an odd one. Until recently, I have been able to access all my shares, as well as my setup pages, of my Duo from a laptop that access my home net via WiFi. I say "until recently" because suddenly, I am not able to access the shares or configure via this PC. I've run RAIDar and it has discovered the NAS, but I cannot browse to it. Any ideas why?

Thanks!
Max

  • Have there been any network changes?

Do you know what the IP address of your Duo and PC are?
  • The only network change was the addition of a Popcorn Hour... I am able to access the Setup page via IP addy (192.168.2.2/admin). One other odd thing - when I try to access my Transmission Queue (192.168.2.2:8181), I'm asked for a user id and password... As far as I know, I don't have a user ID or password for Transmission...

Something else I just noticed... I'm not able to see any other of my networked PCs in My Network... So perhaps, it's either a Router issue, or this Laptop...

    Hmmm.....
  • It sounds like the Popcorn Hour made changes to the Apache config on your Duo.

Some wireless router put the wireless clients on a different subnet and will not route broadcast packets. Does the IP address of your wireless PC start with 192.168.2?
  • For the RAIDar utility it does, it sends a broadcast packet out that the ReadyNAS device responds to.

If the ReadyNAS is on s different subnet the broadcast packet will never get there.
  • Sorry, I made the bad assumption that "Popcorn Hour" was an Application that was installed on your NAS not a media device. I would assume that the addition of a Popcorn Hour device on the network should not cause an inability to communicate from your PC to the NAS. But to rule this out can you try accessing the NAS with the Popcorn Hour device is turned off.

When you installed your Popcorn Hour device did you change your networks wiring?

OK, lets take a step back here. Your NAS has an IP of 192.168.2.2. What is the IP address of your Wireless PC? How are the devices on your network getting their addresses, are you using static or DHCP? What is the network mask?

How are the wired devices connected? Is your wireless base also a router? If so is the NAS plugged directly into the router? Is the wireless base have a built-in firewall? If so is there a setting to bridge the wireless and wired networks? (Doing this could decrease the security of your wired network, make sure your wireless network is secured)
  • Previously I could access my Readynas Duo by any pc in the house
I can see in RAIDar and when I go to Setup it states unable to connect. I can see the NAS on the PC by browsing network but refuses connection, I can ping the NAS and I cannot connect by SSH via putty. What is going on here.... Yet I can access via XBOX 360 and by Bittorrent at http://192.168.0.199:8080.

Probably best to start a new thread, and describe your network setup in more detail there.
