Thanks, Stephen. I don't have a SATA reader but I'll try to get one or install the drive into an old pc that I have tomorrow. No, in December, 2012 this saga started when both of my drives died. It's a very long and sad story that would take me much too long to recite hear. Suffice to say that I'm a bit frustrated.
I bought this new drive last week and installed it in drive #1. That's when it tried to install but after 60 hours I unplugged the machine. Then I discovered that the machine is duo v1 rather than v2. So, now the drive can't be recognized with or without #2 drive added. (I have another new drive that was not Raid that I'm using for the #2 drive to try to get machine to work. I'm grasping at straws now).
Anyway, so here we are. I'll try to find out if the drives are viable and get back to you on the results ASAP. Of course, I'm a bit nervous that something is wrong with my chassis as I've had to replace the last 2 as they were faulty and I'm concerned that the chassis is causing damage to the new drives that I've put in. But I'll try to keep faith and continue with Netgear support's advice (I also have an active case going #21158408)
