ReadyNAS Duo V1 expansion and backup

HI All,

I have a ReadyNAS Duo (v1 apparently!), and need to do some work on it! I originally had in what I thought was a RAID1 mirror with 2x1TB drives in it. This acted as a Backup for the PC's and the MAC (TimeMachine) in the house. The Mac has since died, but I want to keep the TimeMachine in case I replace it and I've also stolen (/repurposed) one of the 1TB drives. So, I'm left with a now almost full back up device.

I've purchased 2x2TB drives to use... So, my question is, can I insert ONE of the new drivers, let it all sync up, THEN, replace the original 1TB with the OTHER new drive and let it sync again AND have the 2TB at the end of the day, AND all my data (including TimeMachine backup)...?

Question 2 - if I use the NetGear back up and back up the "volume" (from the FrontView admin pages), will it ALSO backup the TimeMachine backup? i.e. if I have to insert the new drives and start again...

I note now though, when I look at the admin pages, it actually says it's X-RAID...

Thanks in advance.

Anthony..

    1. Yes
    2. Yes, backing up the volume backs up everything. As for restoring Time Machine from backup that is a different matter.
  • ..awesome - thanks.

It's busy backing itself up to a 2TB USB drive now - suspect it will be for some time. But will insert the new 2TB alongside tomorrow and go from there.

    Cheers
