ReadyNAS Duo V1 fan full speed!!!!
Hi! I have a problem with my fan speed ReadyNAS Duo v1 (firmware 4.1.16). After a "reset factory" the fan full speed all the times (5600rpm)! i also tried to calibrate the fan but that did not hel...

Oh Joy - Peace and Quiet
Finally sorted this one and my suspicions were confirmed.
There is an add on called EnableFanMinRPMOverride_0.1 in the Readynas duo downloads for SPARC
Download this and install just like a firmware update (browse file from PC from browse button)
Reboot and there will be an extra option in the Power section that allows you to set the fan minimum speed (I set as 2000 and applied) . I also set the disks to power down after 5 mins as well then applied and rebooted.
After the reboot, after a few minutes the system slowly lowered the fan speed close to the value I set (2000). I then tried the recalibrate button and this was now working and reset the fan after a couple of minutes.
There are WARNINGS not to set this too low just in case so 2500 is acceptable noise - lower if you feel lucky.
If you look in the Health section it will give a fan speed but you need to toggle between health and logs to get current speed as it does not vary with the fan speed.
Did all this on 4.1.16 RAIDIATOR.
Confirms my theory as the factory reset changed the speed of the fan in EPROM and did not set back at the end.

Hi!
This workaround works for me (RAIDiator Version 4.1.16 (Sparc)) but... i think it's not the good solution. We need a new version of RAIDiator !
It is not conceivable that after a "reset factory" we find ourselves with a problem as this one. NetGear is responsible and has to correct this error!
Merci !

Hi ZenPiPS
There are newer models of ReadyNAS wherein the issue has been fixed however for RAIDiator, updates would be impossible since its already in EOL.
It would be wise to plan on changing your unit to OS6.

To clarify this - your duo v1 isn't capable of running OS 6 firmware. Marc is suggesting replacing your duo v1 with a new ReadyNAS.
FWIW, your duo became end-of-life in 2011, when it was replaced by the duo v2 (running OS 5.3.x). Netgear has done several firmware releases after that, despite the EoL status. But I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for another firmware release. And even if they were to do one, it would almost certainly be a targeted security fix.
My own duo v1 remains in service as a backup NAS (and doesn't have this particular issue). I won't invest more money/time in it, but I will keep using it as a secondary backup while it lasts.
