r6230 not getting full speed
i bought a used r6230 because it is supposed to be gigabit speed so i thought it would improve my wifi speed but it's the same as my r6020 and only gives around 94 mbps down and 10 up when i pay for 250 down and 10 up through cox. i get full speed wired to my cable modem which is a cm1200 so why is the wifi speed not better? i use the 5ghz band with my laptop and 2.4 for everything else
Good to hear. CAT6 would be recommended.
Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

You'll never see anything near 900Mpbs on 2.4 or 5Ghz wifi. Most devices top out at 300Mpbs to 500Mpbs depending on router model and device support and design.
You may see near 900Mpbs thru the R6230 with a ethernet connected PC with 1000Mpbs connection rate, however being a older generation router, wired may not see that either.
IF you want to see Gg speeds on wifi, you'll need a AX wireless mode supporting router.

so i'm only going to get 100 mbps and nothing even remotely close to 250
Well with the specs for this model router at:
WiFi transmitters/receivers (Tx/Rx)
- 2x2 (2.4GHz) + 2x2 (5GHz)• AC1200 WiFi - 300(2.4Ghz)+900Mbps(5Ghz) < These are connection rate speeds between the router and a connected wifi device.
With this kind of spec, maybe hard to see high download speeds on wifi.
Try a factory reset and setup from scratch. Don't enable Access Controls, Circle, Traffic meter or QoS.
Try with and with out Smart Connect enabled and test with a 5Ghz supporting device.
Not sure if Beamforming or MIMO is supported on this model router. I presume it may not be since being only a 2x2 supporting router.
