ReadyNas Duo V2 - Windows 10 File Explorer Struggling To See This NAS
Hi
I've been a member on this forum for years, since I bought my above NAS but for some reason my old credentials have been wiped and I've had to re-register.
For some reason early last week my Windows 10 PC has failed to automatically see my NAS in File Explorer. I can see it when I press "Browse" in RAIDar (I'm using version 4.3.8 but not sure if I should be using 5.3.13) - it comes up with it's fixed IP address under "Network". It's usable in that I can move, copy and delete files but once I exit File explorer it disappears again, necessitating me having to use RAIDar again to see my shares. It's seen on my network by other devices but not my PC.
I have mapped the one of the main folders in my "Music" Share but clicking this brings up an error - "The Local Device Name Is Already In Use and has not been restored" or "Y:\ is not accessible". Yesterday I switched on my NAS and then turned on my PC (in that order) and the NAS was seen straight away without using RAIDar first. This morning though I reverted to my usual order of switching on, namely PC first and then the NAS and I was back where I was, having to use RAIDar.
Something has changed with my PC to knock my NAS out from automatic discovery but I cannot seem to fix it. I recently updated to the new Windows 10 20H2 release so am not sure if it was this that has caused this issue. I have never had massive issues with my Duo (or my RN104, which currently is working perfectly by the way) until now.
Can someone help me please?
Thanks

There is no RAIDar 5.3.13, only 4.3.8 and 6.5. Both will work with your Duo V2 - the only issue with 6.5 is that it won't let you switch to FlexRAID.

This has always been somewhat hit-or-miss, and I don't know of any sure-fire way to ensure that the NAS always shows up. I guess you could try enabling the SMB 1/CIFS server in the PC via "turn windows features on or off". That might be needed to enable the old netbios discovery that is required to discover the NAS. If you have shares on the PC, then make sure that the server function is only enabled on private networks.
A better workaround is to enter \\nas-name or \\nas-ip-address into the file explorer address bar - using the real name or ip address of course. You do need to be careful to use the correct slash direction. That's really all RAIDar is doing (after it discovers the NAS).
You can also create desktop shortcut(s) which will open up directly to the share list (or to a specific share), or you can add a NAS share as a network location in the main File Explorer pane.
