It is conceivable, but I think it's unlikely. Does the socket in the NAS appear to be damaged in any way?
To clarify - it is possible that something on the system board has failed. That's not repairable. If the system doesn't power up at all when diskless, then you either need to replace the NAS or you need to do a risk-buy of a new adapter.
The only components in the original Duo that can be replaced are the memory and the power adapter (and of course the disks). The memory in the Duo v2 is soldered in, so it can't be replaced.
