Readynas dup v1 - Raid-0
Hi People.
I have my readynas running with a 2TB disk and a 1½ TB disk, the 2 TB disk stop working (but was able to make clone of it after a new weeks of hard work)
but i got a new disk and plugged it in and everything is working fine.
But my Questing is, is it possible to put a other new 2TB in with the clone i did of the broken disk ?
Will that work? or will it simple fuck up the raid ?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThis is raid-0???
- CreAxAspirantwell i have 3½ TB, (there are 2 options for raid layout on the readynas duo v1) and i toke the one where you get all the GB.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou can't insert the 2 TB clone in place of the second disk (the 1.5 TB one). For one thing, the two disks have completely different contents.
One drawback of your configuration is that if either drive fails you loose the entire array. If you ever do another factory reset you might consider creating two separate volumes (C for one drive, D for the other). Then the drives are independent, so a failure only kills half your data. - CreAxAspirant@Stephen
Right now there are C and D drive (just like before) when the old C drive died (the old 2TB) i simple just replaced it with a new.
But my Questing is: Is it possible to put other 2TB insted of the 2TB (there are in the readynas now) with clone from the first 2TB (the one who died)? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserSo you have 2 Raid-0 volumes (C and D)?
Why do you want to put in the cloned drive (replacing the existing one that is working nicely?) - CreAxAspirantYes i have 2 raid-0 C + D :)
Well had stuff on the old drive i would like to get back is possible, looks like the clone was allright.
So thats why im asking, or is there other way to get the data back ? from the clone drive :)
btw: thanks for trying to help! :D - StephenBGuru - Experienced User-If you have a SATA/USB enclosure, you can connect the old drive to the USB port of the NAS, and copy the data files over to the new volume.
-Alternatively, you can try powering down the NAS, removing both the existing drives, installing the clone, and powering up.
If all is well, the NAS should boot, and you would see the old files. In that case you could copy the files somewhere, power down the NAS again, and restore the new drives. (Or take a bit more risk, and power down the NAS, and restore just the 1.5 TB drive, and leave the clone in place).
The power down/power up matters, as you don't want the NAS to think you are inserting a new drive (which it will wipe). Generally I don't like messing with drives unless I have a current backup - there is always the risk something will go wrong. - CreAxAspirantBut its should work if you use a SATA/USB cable ?
Because thats a very easy fix..... - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIf you have a SATA/USB cable (and the external power supply) you can connect the old drive to your NAS USB port. It should recognize the formatting, and let you access the data volume. So if you have the adapter, try that first.
- CreAxAspirantHi again StephenB :)
I connected the New harddrive with the clone image on it (from the broke one) to the nas, it connects the harddrive and share the folder so i can browse it.
The problem is, that when i connect the harddrive to a windows computer, it will tell me that i have 3 partitions, and looks like its only adding partition 1 = 500 MB or something like that.
Device Part. Description Used Size FS Speed
1 WDC WD20 EARX-00ZUDB0 [Partition 1] 302 MB 1984 MB EXT3 480
Possible to do something about that ? so it will add partition 2 and 3 ?
