If I were to purchase a Netgear, would it then be an option?

Yes. You could purchase a used NAS that runs 4.2.x firmware (ultra/pro), and try migrating the disks,
It is also possible to temporarily mount the volume as read-only in an x86 OS-6 NAS (RN300 or better): https://kb.netgear.com/29957/ReadyNAS-Migrating-disks-from-RAIDiator-4-2-to-ReadyNAS-OS-6-x86
You could try installing R-linux for Windows on the PC, and see if that can access it. https://www.r-studio.com/free-linux-recovery/

Hi StephenB,
Thanks for your response.
I've already purchased r-studio and was able to recover the .iscsi folder. The file inside (guessing LUN) was 1.3TB which I labelled name.iso but when I tried to mount it, received an error message about potential corruption. There were also some other folders which I forgot about that had some files I've recovered successfully without receiving the error which leads me to believe that the error I received when trying to mount the LUN was because it's not how it's done (or some other legitimate reason) and not that the file is actually damaged. Perhaps Windows couldnt read it.
With regards to purchasing a new NAS, happy to do it but would the migration you're suggesting simply be slotting the good disk in to the new NAS or is there more of a process to it?
WIth the new NAS, would you recommend any of the following?
Netgear RN21200-100AJS
Netgear RN204-100AJS
Netgear ReadyNAS RN42200-100AJS
Thanks again

Did you try not renaming the LUN, and accessing it with the windows iscsi initiator?

TBH I read the extension thing somewhere else and didnt think to try what you've suggested. Would that simply be a matter having the iscsi file available on the computer and adding 127.0.0.1 as the target? I don't have access to the computer at the moment as it's offline so will have to give this a try on Monday.
With regards to purchasing a new NAS, would you recommend any of the NAS models in my previous post?
Thanks StephenB

If you want to migrate the disks, you'd need the RN422 or an RN420 series with more bays). The RN2xx series are ARM-based - they work well, but don't support disk migration from your ultra.
