ReadyNAS NV+ - stuck on boot (DRAM fail?)
Hi...
I have a oldie but goldie ReadyNAS NV+ (e.g. RND4000). It has 3 disks in it and a 1GB memory expansion.
It's stuck on boot, blowing the fans at full speed and not getting far.
Looking at this forum I came across the diagnostics part.
Did a "skip the volume check" - still stuck.
Did a "memory check" - bingo. Got the following:
- Disk 1+2 then 3+4 lights come on in a alternating pattern
- Display says "DRAM Test Fail A0000004"
Is there a way to determine whether this is the main (e.g. onboard 256) memory, or the expansion module?
I hope it's the expansion one, since it would be easier to replace....
Thanks, Robert.
There is no onboard memory. When you installed the 1GB, you removed the 256KB SODIMM.
It could still be an address line, buffer, or something else, but the SODIMM is most likely, the only replaceable part, and very cheap these days. If you still have the original one, you could re-install it and see if all is well, or just buy and try a replacement.

Thanks for the response. I found a older memory module somewhere in a crevice of a drawer - installed it and it boots up!
Thanks!
