ReadyNAS NV+ boot
Dear Community,
I have an issue since a week that I can't resolve on my own. I have a NV+ with 4*2Tb disks. until now, all was running fine.
I have many PCs and a MAC. recently i have decided to test Time Machine with the NAS. The first backups worked all fine. MAC was happy, the NAS as well.
Then i have decided to allow my box to route the TimeMachine port to the NAS so then i could make backup remotely. But could not make it work since my organization's firewall blocks it.
A bit before that i wanted to use my newly acquired AppleTv, worked fine, could browse AFP shares, watch movies, and so on...
but then one or two days after the NAS failed to respon to any request (SSH, HTTP, HTTPS, AFP, NFS, ...) except pings..., I tried to turn it off via the front panel button, again no response. I was not happy to unplug/replug the power cable to restart it, but I did it.
Of course, the NAS not beeing happy tells me (File System Check and Quota Check)... thinking that as i have 4*2TB drives in there, it will take quite a while to do it... fine.. let's let it run...
One or two days after, the NAS still displayed Quota Check: 35.1%"... told myself that i was really too long... waited a couple of hours to observe a 0.1% increase... but no... nothing happened.
then, i told myself... it crashed doing the quota check, let's restart it once more via the front panel power button... and failed... so tried again to unplug/replug... fs check, quota check... and now the screen light is off, text appears (usual IP address and space available...) and no response again to SSH, HTTP, .....
Have installed the Netgear ReadyNAS RAIDar program to check if i can find any hidden functionnality to access the NAS... it is detected, gives firmware version (btw : 4.1.8), temperature, disks, UPS, but constantly says "Volume C: RAID level X, Resync 86% complete, Time to finish 1h13min, Speed 59Mb/s; 1752 GB (31%) of 5533 GB" and i can't set up, browse...
Do you have any ideas I could explore ?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Nick.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou most likely have a bad disk.
I would suggest you open a tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support) case. Please post your case number.
Welcome to the forum! - ponsnAspirantThanks,
I may check each disk with the Manufacturer disk utily.
it is true that the NAS told me that it was resyncing Disk 3 at some point, but thought it was pointless since i thought that while rebooting hardly, some data was not written on the disk, this way, it was just re-syncing it.
Cheers - ponsnAspirantIs it thinkable to migrate the RAID 5 block to a physical machine ?
of course, I would like not to loose the data
cheers
Nick - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThat's a last resort for data recovery. See Mounting Sparc-based ReadyNAS Drives in x86-based Linux
I would suggest working with NetGear technical support. - ponsnAspirant@mdgm :
Thanks for your suggestion, I've seen posts like that, and I've already started trying it out with RHEL 6.1 SRV x86_64.
the OS sees the /dev/c/c but can't mount it yet since I have the block size issue.
tried to download fuseext2, and need to compile it, but i have some issues there.
I will try to reinstall my RHEL and replace it with ubuntu.
I keep you posted.
Thanks
Cheers
Nick
