Tried that - no change.
With all four discs removed, half an hour after powering up again (the power up button does work to power up, just not to power down):
- The front panel LCD message still shows the previous message ‘Booting Please wait...’
- None of the four disc lamps has lit up.
- The blue power lamp continues to flash but won’t power the ReadyNAS down when pressed.
- RAIDar_6.3.0 again returns ‘RAIDar could not find any NETGEAR storage on your network. Check that your storage device is powered on and connected correctly. For more help, visit http://my.netgear.com.’

Yup, it certainly does. I'll look out for a replacement case/housing in the usual places and see if we can put the jigsaw back together..
