ReadyNAS NV+ V2 and StarTech HD Dock

Just wonder if anyone has tried to do a backup from their ReadyNAS to a StarTech hard drive docking station. I had several 1TB SATA drives and bought a StarTech USB 3.0 SATA hard drive docking station. At present I am simply using it to clean up and reformat the hard drives. I can copy files to and from it from any of my systems with no problem. Was thinking about hooking it to the 3.0 USB port on the ReadyNAS and using it as a backup device for it. Just drop a drive in and let it back up what I need. Want to know if anyone has tried one of these or something similar and if they had any issues.

Thanks in advance for the help. Hope you have a SUPER Day!!

  • Hi there,
I've successfully used similar hard drive docking stations (sumovision & a unbranded one)and currently use them for my external method of backing up my NAS's. Not tried usb3, due to mine being usb2.
Initially i let the nas format the disks as ext3, and away I went. renamed the drives again within frontview (on an ultra) to ensure i was not restricted later on with the auto naming convention.
Setup the initial jobs via NFS, once the drive was populated, amended the job to rsync - works well for me! (apart from when i tred to do all this within a duo v2, as the rsync has no method to delete files via backup job using rsync, but thats a current limition as at firmware v5.3.7)
