ReadyNAS OS6 - Plex not showing as running but is (RN516)
I have a ReadyNAS RN516 which originally started on OS 6.0.3 but was quickly updated to 6.0.5, it always had issues showing the actual running state of the Plex server, and even though it shows as Off would actually be running (I.e. I can connect via DLNA clients and Plex client to the Plex service not the ReadyDLNA service).
I then updated to 6.0.6 and it still had the same issues, for other reasons I did a factory restore to 6.0.6 but again, after a reboot sometimes it shows as running and other times it doesn't.
If I click on run I get the spinning pop up window that stays for minutes, so I click on the browser refresh and it shows up as not running again. If I go to the command line and close the Plex app and then go to the dashboard and click on run it starts up and shows as running.
But rebooting again seems random as to if it will display as running or not even though it always is.
Any thoughts or should I contact Netgear support?

- OvrQualifiedAspirantI have the same issue, and have an open ticket with Netgear support. Contact them...I'd imagine the more open tickets they have on an issue, the faster they'll address it.
- m1sterdTutorI have now also opened a ticket, along with several others for issues with ReadyRemote on Android, ReadyCloud for invited users etc.
- GovnahAspirantTo address this issue this is what I did:
SSH into the RN516
systemctl stop fvapp-plexmediaserver
Frontview, Apps, toggle Plex to on.
systemctl status fvapp-plexmediaserver
...and you shouls see the following:
root@ReadyNAS_516:/home/guyp# systemctl status fvapp-plexmediaserver
fvapp-plexmediaserver.service - Plex Media Server
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/fvapp-plexmediaserver.service; enabled)
Active: active (running) since Mon, 20 May 2013 09:56:20 -0500; 4 days ago
Main PID: 5013 (Plex Media Serv)
CGroup: name=systemd:/system/fvapp-plexmediaserver.service
â 5013 /apps/plexmediaserver/Binaries/Plex Media Server
â 5075 /apps/plexmediaserver/Binaries/Plex DLNA Server
â 14715 Plex Plug-in [com.plexapp.system] /apps/plexmediaserver/MediaLibrary/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/Framework.bundle/Contents/Resources...
That is what I did and have not had an issue since. However I do agree this should be accomplished from frontview without having to SSH into the RN516. - gsriderGuideThanks for the tip, Govnah. Unfortunately though it didn't work for me. Plex fails to start, so I too opened a ticket. I hope that it'll get fixed soon as I bought the 516 to use as my plex server. It's terrible that Plex fails with a brand new 516 before I made any config or share changes. The NAS is brand new.
I also tried to start Photos II. I don't really care about that app since I had it running on my Ultra 6+ and didn't like it, but it's the only other app that comes pre-installed on the 516 so I wanted to tinker. It failed too with the message:
System: Sorry. Application 'ReadyNAS Photos II' is not ready for installation, but will be ready in the near future. Please check it again later.
Seriously Netgear, what kind of testing did you do before shipping this product? - chirpaLuminary
Post-production testing, via the customer base :Pgsrider wrote: Seriously Netgear, what kind of testing did you do before shipping this product? - super_poussinVirtuosoprovide me ssh access by pm , think I couls solve your issue :)
- Mortis360AspirantI also have this problem (RN314)! When I toggle in on/off nothing happens, but I can reach it from my TV, iPad, etc... It says It's an update available too, but I can't upgrade, is it because of this?
- gsriderGuideI just updated my firmware from 6.0.6 to 6.0.7 and it now works for me. There seems to be significant rework of app management in 6.0.7...
Thanks for the offer to help, super-poussin, but it looks like I'm in good shape now. - m1sterdTutorMy RN516 is saying the 6.0.6 update is currently the latest, did you download 6.0.7 directly and install it manually via the Admin UI?
- GovnahAspirantHad the same problem so installed manually.......See below for the firmware.
