ReadyNas Pro 6 High Temperature
I am running firmware version 6.9.3 on a old ReadyNAS Pro 6. Lately I have noticed that the system temperature is running higher than normal. I have noticed temperatures up to 68C. Hard drives and...

The fan is system-controlled, and I'd also expect it to maintain a lower system temp when set to cool.
But I am wondering if the system is really as hot as is being reported.

Thanks for the hint. Your comment that the fan was system-controlled made me wonder why then was the fan speed not changing when the system temperature increased.
I took the cover off the unit and popped out what looked like might be the system fan that was located on the side of the unit. See attached picture of what I found.
After a good cleaning of the area and then running the unit for some time I noticed that now the system fan speed adjust as required to keep the system temperature around 55C. The fan speed never went above 850 RPM before. Now the fan speed varies from 750 - 1500 RPM.
The dirt was either keeping the fan from reaching a higher speed or it was insulating the internal temperature probe from allowing the fan speed to increase.
It now appears to be actually controling the system temperature within a more normal range.
I guess you can have your cake and eat it too.

Hi McRob1, great to hear, that you found a solution after being catalyzed by StephenB. However, basic principles of physics are not overthrown by cleaning up the kitchen. :smileyhappy:

I believe there's a temperature below which we can't reliably detect the temperature.

This thread has more information on that: https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Hardware-Compatibility/OS-6-6-1-on-Ultra-6-Temperature-readings-incorrect/m-p/1214396#M15297
