ReadyNAS OS 6 on Legacy models
995 TopicsReadyNAS Ultra 6 stuck at "ReadyNAS" after degraded mode / failed drive
My ReadyNAS Ultra 6, running 6.10.8 became inaccessible yesterday. I tried to log in via http and SSH. http was non responsive and SSH allowed me to log in but immediately kicked me out. When I looked at the front of the unit i saw, "default: DEGRADED". disk 2 had an "X" through it. I checked with RAIDar and I could see the device. The note was, "Volume default: RAID Level 6, Not redundant; 13.9TB (96%) of 14.5TB used". The unit was making a clicking noise. I left it for a few hours and then decided to reboot - probably a mistake, I now realize. So right now, about 15 hours later, the machine is on with "ReadyNAS" displayed on the front, fans running full blast, and I cannot hear any disk activity. I can see a very small pinpoint sized white LED flashing next to the display. I am not sure what to do next. I would like to recover the data on the drives if i can. Should I replace the failed drive with a new drive? Is the system running an fsck or similar on all 13TB? Should I just leave it? I looked into creating a bootable USB but I only have MacOS, no Windows and that seems to be a requirement for the Intel-based recovery USB. Thanks in advance for any advice.59Views0likes3CommentsPro6 reduction of power consumption
I have several Netgear Pro6 systems. They were upgraded to RaidOS 6.10, Intel E7600 CPUs and 4GB ram and are working great (had to recap the Seasonic power supplies since the caps were bulging). I also have an Ultra 6. I noticed the Ultra 6 uses (without drives plugged in) 19.5 watts while the Pro6 with E7600 CPUs and no drives plugged in uses 55-60watt. With the original Intel E2160 CPU the power consumption is not much different. I would like to downgrade the CPUs on the Pro6s I have to a single core model which uses as little as possible electricity. I only use them for storage, nothing fancy and since Ultra6 is fast enough with that Atom a single core Celeron in Pro6s should also be fast enough. Anyone knows what CPU should I look for ?56Views0likes3CommentsDrive replacement for failed drive
Hello everyone I've been running a ReadyNAS RNDU4000 (Ultra 4) populated with 4 x ST4000VN000 4TB drives in a RAID 5 configuration giving me 10.9TB available volume space for many years now. I've also upgraded the device to run on OS6 (currently 6.9.3). I've had a single drive failure and was looking at what I could replace it with. The ST4000VN000 are no longer available and was looking at the current Seagate IronWolf 4TB drives. The one that looked promising was the ST4000VN006 but it runs at 5400rpm which differs from the 5900rpm my current drives are. Would this be a problem? I use my NAS for music streaming and media playback. Has anyone used these drives or better still replaced a ST4000VN000 with one? Anyone got any further suggestions on drive replacement as I cannot find a drive compatibility chart anywhere any more especially for upgraded NAS devices on OS6. Many thanks44Views0likes2CommentsReadyNAS Pro 6 data volume split during resync
One of my drives got a bit warm, so I took it out to let it cool down. During the resync, another drive had some issues, so now rather than one 33.6tb volume, I have two volumes: 13.6tb (data-0) and 20tb (data). I know it's a long shot, but is there any chance of recovering the original volume, or should I just start my plex library again? I'm comfortable enough using PuTTY to SSH in for any commmand line level stuff if it's fixable, and can provide logs on the off chance the seemingly legendary StephenB sees this post!40Views0likes2CommentsRN 422 Volume recovery
Hi all, Hopefully someone out there will have the expertise to help me recover my data. I have a RN 422 with 2 x 4TB drives running in Raid 1 configuration. All has been good until a month ago it started playing up. Failing to boot and an error message on the screen. After some investigation by myself I purchased a replacement drive fitted it and powered on the unit. From what I have learnt now I believe I did the wrong thing. I have not been able to access my data for about a month now and don't have a back-up. I thought Raid 1 ensured a back-up (mirror) but I have since learnt not. This is what I can see if I log into my NAS. Disk 1 is the original and Disk 2 is new blank and formatted.40Views0likes2CommentsRN 10400-100 EUS Volume Not Accessible
Danke für die Hilfe I own a ReadyNas 104, which has worked flawlessly so far. Since I was on vacation, I shut down the system. After I restarted the system after my vacation, I no longer had access to the network drives. So I logged into the administrator page. Here I get a message telling me to remove the inactive volumes. I then stumbled across this thread online: RN424 Volume nach Neustart nicht mehr vorhanden | NETGEAR Communities What can I do to restore the volume and access the data? I greatly appreciate your help.22Views0likes1CommentWin 11 or RN202?
'Newbie' here...... New Win11 computer, now can't write to ReadyNas 202. Access is fine, able to copy/read from new computer, even media player in TV room on WiFi, but can't put/paste new files on RN202. everything was fine with previous Win10 computer (not same hardware) Can access Admin thru browser/URL, log-on, etc On This PC, NAS shows up as a drive and is accessible (read only) On Windows Explorer navigation column, click on NAS get: Windows cannon access NAS Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose (which is useless). Permissions on both computer & NAS are 'wide open'63Views0likes2CommentsUsing ReadyNAS as backend for lightweight web tools — is it reliable?
Hi everyone, I currently maintain a small web tool (for example a gratuity / end-of-service benefit calculator for users in the UAE), and I’m evaluating options to host user data, logs, JSON storage files, and backups. My ideal setup is a lightweight, always-on system without needing a full server. That’s where ReadyNAS caught my interest. Some of the things I’m considering: Using ReadyNAS to host REST APIs, static JSON or YAML config files, and backing up user session data. Ensuring data integrity and performance — especially under concurrent access. Handling firmware updates without breaking API endpoints. Syncing backups to cloud or another NAS for redundancy. A few questions for those experienced with ReadyNAS: 1. Has anyone used ReadyNAS to back a small web service or tool (not just file server)? 2. What is the maximum recommended concurrent requests for lightweight API files (JSON) on ReadyNAS? 3. Which methods have you used for version-safe firmware updates so that custom services are not lost? 4. How do you handle secure access (SSL, tokens) when serving APIs from a NAS that’s also storing private user data? If anyone’s already built similar backend or microservice setups using ReadyNAS, I’d love pointers or pitfalls to avoid. Thank you!81Views0likes1Commentsudo: unable to write to /var/lib/sudo/ts/admin: No space left on device
I've SSHed into my NAS and got this message: sudo: unable to write to /var/lib/sudo/ts/admin: No space left on device This has all seemed to start after doing some tinkering with the Logitech Media Server which I now suspect, could have been installed incorrectly in the wrong location. If I run df -h the result is: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on udev 10M 4.0K 10M 1% /dev /dev/md0 4.0G 3.7G 4.0K 100% / tmpfs 491M 4.0K 491M 1% /dev/shm tmpfs 491M 3.7M 487M 1% /run tmpfs 246M 1.4M 244M 1% /run/lock tmpfs 491M 0 491M 0% /sys/fs/cgroup /dev/md127 2.8T 1.9T 855G 70% /data /dev/md127 2.8T 1.9T 855G 70% /home /dev/md127 2.8T 1.9T 855G 70% /apps If I attempt to logon via the ReadyNAS GUI I continually get asked for the user and password, entering admin and then password just loops back around to another dialogue box with the same request. Please reassure me that I haven't completely borked the ReadyNAS OS! 😳150Views0likes14Comments
