ReadyNas Ultra 2 RNDU2000 dead after unknown causes
Hello all. Please forgive me if this is in the wrong forum, I didn't find one that said it was for ReadyNAS tech support and difficulties. I have a strange issue with my ReadyNas Ultra 2. It's about ...

There is a freeware package you can try, called R-linux for Windows ( https://www.r-studio.com/free-linux-recovery/ ). So start there, and see if it finds your files.
Thank you for the lead on this. I was able to get all my data off one of the drives. The unit is indeed dead. I received a new power supply from amazon at 12V and 5A, and it just continued the same behavior. I'm pretty confident it's toast. However, with your information on r-linux, I was to gather all my media, and put it on my other NAS devices - so thank you for that.

Start by removing both disks (labeling them by slot), and powering up the ReadyNAS. Install RAIDar on a PC ( https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads#raidar ) and see if it can find the NAS. Normally it will find it, and report a diskless status.
If it doesn't, then your either your NAS chassis has failed or your power brick has failed. If it does, the problem is most likely with the disks (though insufficient power can cause a lot of odd symptoms).

So I have a few questions; first, can I migrate the disks seemlessly to a new Netgear device?
You can't migrate them seamlessly, but there is a way to temporarily mount them in some new models - particularly RN400, RN500, and RN600. That is described here: https://kb.netgear.com/29957/ReadyNAS-Migrating-disks-from-RAIDiator-4-2-to-ReadyNAS-OS-6-x86
You'd need to offload the data, then set up the new NAS (which formats the disks). Then restore the data after the NAS is set up.

Second, if I can't drop it into another NAS, can I safely mount one of the drives to a desktop computer?
You are using XRAID (or RAID-1), correct?
Your NAS uses a linux file system (ext), which Windows doesn't recognize. There is a freeware package you can try, called R-linux for Windows ( https://www.r-studio.com/free-linux-recovery/ ). So start there, and see if it finds your files.
