    What was the initial size of your volume and what size would it be now if the expansion completed?  It sounds like you have run into one of the expansion limits of the file system used by OS4.2.x:  The limits are explained in item 3 of this article: ReadyNAS-Volume-Expansion.  Your Ultra6 can run OS6, though unofficially.  So if you end up needing to factory default to get around your problem, you may want to consider going to OS6.  It has no similar limits.
