I had the exact same issues as OP, and this was the problem. Thank you so very much! Saved me a tech support fee. :)
In my case, the partition was filled with
1) 1.6 GB of JNA tmp files: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_Native_Access
removed with: rm /tmp/jna*.tmp
2) 1.9 GB of CrashPlan cache: http://support.code42.com/CrashPlan/Latest/Troubleshooting/Clearing_Your_Cache_For_Quick_Fixes#Manually_Clearing_The_Cache
removed with: rm -rf /usr/local/crashplan/cache/*
Did a Reinstall OS just to get everything to a stable state. Now it works like new.
