Rebuild problems
I had drive 4 fail. Replaced drive 4 with a new cold spare. The spare almost immediately started giving SMART errors: Detected increasing reallocated sector count[3552] on disk 4 [ST1000DM003-1CH162, Z1DCK4N6] after poweron 5 hours. This often indicates an impending failure. Please be prepared to replace this disk to maintain data redundancy.
as well as SMART disk errors: Reallocated sector count has increased in the last day.
Disk 4:
Previous count: 2544
Current count: 3064
ATA error count has increased in the last day.
Disk 6:
Previous count: 18
Current count: 30
Growing SMART errors indicate a disk that may fail soon. If the errors continue to increase, you should be prepared to replace the disk.

I guess it is possible that my spare is bad out of the box.
My question is can I replace the drive another 1TB drive as long as it is on the supported list. My immediate options are limited due to my location.

Thanks for any feedback and help.

Note the disk 6 issues might be somehow linked to the disk 4 failures (though it is possible there are two failing drives).
You should pull disk 4, and then back up your data (for instance to a USB drive) before proceding further - it is at risk.
It is pretty clear that disk 4 has failed, so you should exchange it with the seller. I recommend getting either a 1 TB Seagate Ironwolf or a WD10EFRX (WD Red) drive instead. Both are drives intended for NAS, and both are compatible with your NAS, and should work with your existing array.

Just to add to what StephenB said: Unfortunately, out-of-the-box drive failures do occur, and it looks like you have one. If the errors were ATA errors, it might be the NAS. But bad sectors are the drive.
It is not unusual for errors to show up on anther drive in re-sync. That's why making a backup before replacging the drive is recommended. The sync process is very drive intensive. But, more importantly, it aaccesses every sector and the drive can notice something it wasn't seeing because certain areas of the drive never change. If you are still runin g OS 4.2.x, then I don't know a good way around that. If you've upgraded to OS6, then scrubs are the best way to detect such problems before they become critical.
If you had a redundant system with 30 re-allocated sectors on one drive, it wouldn't be too bad. But with one drive failed, you could be on the prescipice of total volume loss.

Thanks for the feedback. My biggest challenge was I was not getting email errors and did not know about the gmail issue!
I am running 4.2.31. Don't know if this unit will run OS6? It is an Ultra 6 or Ultra 6 Plus.
I am in the process of backuping up what I can, and will replace all the drives once I finish.
