This would be \\name or \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ??? What error are you seeing?
If you try "net use" to map a NAS share to a drive letter, what happens?

\\SCOOBY\media
or
\\192.168.0.222
net use z: \\SCOOBY\media
System error 58 has occurred.
The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.
same error with
net use z: \\192.168.0.222\media
