rsync works between OS4.x NASes and an OS6 NAS here...I used to use deltacopy for personal backups back in the day but I recall it not behaving predictably in some ways when it came to file copying. The windows rsync scene is pretty rough. I'm not sure what to suggest other than a straight cygwin install of rsync.

I think that might be over my skill level with Cygwin
Maby a virtual machine running some Linux install would work better for rsync although I have no Linux experience
how about a replacement way to backup my files ?
from NAS to Windows PC with USB drives
backing up the files that have changed only, also deleting the files that have been removed from the nas
i need to do something as my backups aren't running and are over a week old so as it stands if my drives fail I'm going to lose at least 1 week of data I'm extremely worried

If the NAS and the PC both run 24/7, have a look at SyncBack Free as a solution for a PC-initiated backup instead of a NAS-initiated one. At the very least, you can use it as a temporary fix while you see if you can get the other working again.
