Depending on how much handling it sees, you may want to consider transporting the drives outside the unit. But otherwise, the plan is sound. But you'll have to work out how you connect it. Does your PC have an Ethernet port you could dedicate to the NAS so you don't have to put the NAS on the local network? A USB Ethernet adapter would be a good option if you don't.
