Resetting Admin Password on NV+v2

Hello JohnDoe2016,
Since it is detected by RAIDar, it should show the current firmware version of the NAS. If the firmware version starts with 5.3.x, then that is a ReadyNAS NV=v2 ARM-based. If it starts with 4.1.x then that is a ReadyNAS NV+v1 Sparc-based. ARM based NAS units' default login is admin for username and password for password while Sparc-based is admin for username and netgear1 for password.
If you are still not able to get in and the disks are empty and no data, you may perform factory reset to get the NAS let allow you to start from scratch and build the volume for you. There is also another way, perform OS reinstall to reset the password to its default.
Please see boot menu of ARM-based ReadyNAS NV+ from this link and Sparc-based from this link
Checking for firmware updates is automatic once the NAS is installed, I believe you should get a prompt if an update is available for the NAS,

Ok so I have a few more questions regarding this.
So ive confirmed my firmware is 5.3.11 and therfore am using ReadyNAS NV+ v2 ARM based.
Am i correct in thinking ARM based is the CPU architecture ?
Next is 5.3.11 the default Firmware for this Nas unit as shipped from the factory ?
Can the firmware be hacked ?
If the firmware can be hacked how do I ensure it hasnt ?
How difficult / risky is it to reinstall the OS as im thinking this should be quicker than a Factory Reset as it would require a rebuild of the XRaid2 Array ? and that takes a long time so an OS install will solve my problem and be a lot faster ?
Sorry for all the questions but im moving lowly untill im sure I know what im doing.
Thanks again for all your help guys n gals.
